Helping your child grow in his/her prayer life is a great responsibility for parents. But it is also a great honor and great joy for there is nothing more important as your relationship with God.  To be an important part of your child’s journey with God is awesome.

Pope Benedict in his last General Audience of 2011 told those gathered that families should be schools of prayer.  We must, he continued, follow the example of the Holy Family of Nazareth.

“May the example of the Holy Family inspire all Christian families to be schools of prayer, where parents and children alike come to know that closeness to God which we joyfully celebrate in these days of Christmas.” The Holy Father explained that prayer is an inescapable model for Christians, because it is through prayer, “that we draw near to God with intimacy and depth”.

Concluding his homily, Pope Benedict urged the faithful to “rediscover the beauty of praying together as a family.”

Please accept this copy of “Praying With Your Children” as a gift from the school as we kick off our celebration of Catholic Schools Week.  Included with the booklet is a bookmark with several prayer activities.  Please consider these activities or the many others suggested in the booklet.  In particular you may wish to decorate the back of the bookmark with a prayer that you write together as a family or with perhaps a favorite family prayer.

If you would like to send us pictures of your family praying together, or praying through acts of kindness and service we would love to post your pictures on the “Photos & Activities" page of this website.  Also, if you are interested in sharing your family prayers with others, we will also post those on the website.  Please send pictures or prayers to awing@cdeducation.org for submission.
